Server settings mostly control difficulty, drop rates and player limits. If you are tuning a co-op world rather than a public server, start from the generator with defaults, then change one group at a time so you can tell what caused a problem.

Why the settings matter
A dedicated server's behaviour is decided almost entirely by its configuration file. Difficulty, drop rate multipliers, player caps, PvP rules and base limits are all single values, and changing several at once makes it impossible to tell which one caused a problem. The practical approach is to start from the defaults, change one group at a time, and restart between changes so the world actually reloads the new values.
- Difficulty and drop rates shape progression the most — change these before touching anything else.
- Base and Pal limits affect performance more than they affect gameplay; raise them slowly on shared hardware.
- PvP, friendly fire and guild settings are separate switches. Turning on PvP does not by itself enable base raiding.
- Remember that most values require a server restart, not just a save.
